Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin' high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges soon" said I
Proud 'neath heated brow
Ahh, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that, now
Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
tear down all hate, I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull, I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep somehow
Ahh, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
Girls' faces formed the forward path
From phony jealousy
To memorizing politics
Of ancient history
Flung down by corpse evangelists
Unthought of, though somehow
Ahh, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
A self-ordained professor's tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty
Is just equality in school
Equality, I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow
Ahh, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My existence led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow
Ahh, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt somehow
Ahh, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now

Legends

Amelia Earhart’s out there somewhere, looking for a place to land
She said never bring it in too early, wait until your time is at hand
but time stands still in the clouds, if you hear her voice let me know
‘cause the air up here is getting mighty thin
and the sea waits impatiently below
I heard Chef Boy-Ar-Dee and Uncle Ben, arguing over what’s for dinner
they said turn off the T.V. and wash your hands, ‘cause you could already be a winner
well they didn’t say where they were going when they left me here with an empty plate
but all this standing around has really got me down
all I’ve got is hurry up and wait
I had a voicemail from the unknown soldier, he said my ship had come in
and although I never really knew him, I can’t forget his ghostly grin
He said war is forever, it really has no end
and once you start down that ancient bloody road
You won’t be back this way again
I’ve been flying all morning by the light of the moon and I’m really getting nowhere at all
all those faces from the halls of Montezuma waiting for that pregnant call
the call to arms from the King, come rally ‘round the flag of Camelot
’cause all the pundits say as the blood washes away
you’re either with us or you’re not

Watching Amy Dance
03:40
|
|||
As you journey down the road my friend
You'll see sights you don't want to see
I saw one about a year ago
When my wife walked out on me
I didn't care so much about the junk she took
It wasn't worth a second glance
Right now I'd give anything
If I could see my little girl dance
See I've always been a traveling man
I still do get around
And it's true I knew a girl or two
When I was out of town
But they all add up to nothing
In this world of cheap romance
And I'd trade them all for one short hour
Watching Amy dance
She'd run round and round in circles and
Clap her little hands
It's a memory that keeps haunting me
Wish I could see my Amy dance
Wish I could my little girl dance
My Mom and Dad are gone rest their souls
My brother is far away
And the way I thought it would all turn out
And where I am today
Lord I know I don't deserve no favors
Please grant me one more chance
Just to spend an hour or two watching Amy dance
She'd run round and round in circles and
Clap her little hands
It's a memory that keeps haunting me
Wish I could see my Amy dance
Wish I could my little girl dance
It all adds up to nothing
In this world of cheap romance
And I'd trade them all for one short hour
Watching Amy dance

Little Wing
05:01
|
|||
Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running round
Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind.
When I'm sad, she comes to me
With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free
It's alright she says it's alright
Take anything you want from me,
Anything.
Fly on little wing,
Yeah yeah, yeah, little wing

Crying In the Rain
04:09
|

I'll never let you see
the way my broken heart is hurting me
I've got my pride and I know how to hide
all my sorrow and pain
I'll do my crying in the rain
If I wait for cloudy skies
you won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
you'll never know that I still love you so
though the heartaches remain
I'll do my crying in the rain
raindrops falling from heaven
could never wash away my misery
but since we're not together
I'll look for stormy weather
to hide these tears I hope you'll never see
someday when my crying's done
I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool but 'til then darlin' you'll
never see me complain
I'll do my crying in the rain

Loser's Corner
04:43
|
|||
There’s a place down here called loser’s corner
where the old guys nurse their drinks and stare
At the young girls out there on the dance floor
and they swear it just isn’t fair
They didn’t make them like that when I was their age
if I could only be young again
But the next round of drinks is easier to buy
Then all the days that have been
There’s a chair for you there
Rita uses love as a weapon w
ith both barrels aimed at your heart
But she’s not gunning for affection
but her daddy’s sin in the dark
And all the men in her life
have been twisted and wrapped around her tight
To shield the little girl that’s somewhere inside
She holds on to with all her might
Save a chair for her there
Bobby licks his wounds like a dog
he’s heard they heal faster that way
He says he moved here for a reason
but the only gigs he can play
Are the ones where everybody listens
and they hang on every single word
But lately no one shares his dreams
His wisdom isn’t getting heard
Save a chair for him there
Brenda is down here every night
looking for the man of her dreams
You can bet by the end of the evening
she’ll find one to help her out of her jeans
I’ve heard she’s from a wealthy family of
corporate lawyers from somewhere back east
So she’s down here slumming casting out a line
Fishing for catch and release
Save a chair for her there
And me I’m fighting off this feeling
that my opinion doesn’t matter at all
And I’m technicolor-painted in the corner
with my back super-glued to the wall
I’m losing my place in line
and my voice is lost on the wind
And the feeling that I’m the biggest loser of all
Is washing over me again
Save a chair for me there

The Water is Wide
04:39
|
|||
The water is wide, I can't cross o'er
And neither have I wings to fly
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I
Oh love is gentle and love is kind
The sweetest flower when first it's new
but love grows old and waxes cold and fades away
like morning dew
There is a ship and she sails the sea
She's loaded deep as deep can be
But not as deep as the love I'm in
I know not how I sink or swim
The water is wide, I can't cross o'er
And neither have I wings to fly
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I
And both shall row, my love and I
