Favorite photographs holding on to memories
Telling stories of the past
Scenes from younger days and seasons rushing by
Yes time goes by so fast
Childhood toys and trading Christmas presents
Faces changing with the years
Rocker bear and a tree full of promise
Encapsuling joy and tears
Scenes of you and me and all our life together
Through the good and the bad
Stronger than the time we’ll live forever
On favorite photographs
Summertime excursions where the buffalo roam
Picnic lunches in the sun
Winter snows seen from a picture window
And favorite dogs on the run
Big jet planes carrying long ago vacations
Holding on to daddy’s hand
Stargate in the rain and beach’s wedding chapel
Waves stealing footprints from the sand
Scenes of you and me and all our life together
Through the good and the bad
Stronger than the time we’ll live forever
On favorite photographs
Looking back through all these favorite images
Telling stories from the past
Living on long after we’ve gone
Yes time goes by so fast

Heroes

The traveling show the best game around
Is finally coming to town driving a party train
The crowd gathers ‘round anticipation fills the air
But the Hero fails to please
Something went wrong today, the favorite song wasn’t played
Thumbs down turn around turn their backs to his face
Put him back in his place let him crash and burn if he falls from grace
Ready for the game the gladiator stands
In the stadium that’s filled with rabid fans
While they sip their lemonade relaxing in the shade
A casual decision is made
And the sword’s bloody blade is trained to obey
Thumbs down turn around turn their backs to his face
Put him back in his place let him crash and burn if he falls from grace
The current favorite tribe beloved stars of the show
Provide vicarious thrills for inquiring minds that wanna know
But their joyous expectations wear a judgment mask
Gnashing vengeful jaws
Tearing flesh from bone while the prisoner stands alone
Thumbs down turn around turn their backs to his face
Put him back in his place let him crash and burn if he falls from grace
The heaven’s brightest star eventually falls from the sky
Another quickly appears ready to give it a try
But among the dying embers a fire that once burned bright
Once lighting up the night
An eternity of blame can never rekindle the flame
Thumbs down turn around turn their backs to his face
Put him back in his place let him crash and burn if he falls from grace
It’s lonely at the top on that narrow pedestal
Worshipped by a public demanding one strict rule
That you drown yourself in excess fulfilling their desire fantasy for hire
No weaknesses allowed or you’ll face the angry crowd
And then thumbs down turn around they’ll turn their backs to your face
Put you right back in your place
They’ll let you crash and burn when you fall from grace

Velvet Elvis

I’m gonna paint me a Velvet Elvis make it really good and tall
Cover up the gaping wound that’s tearing through my wall
Gonna buy me a broken monkey with a money back guarantee
Split it right down the middle and save the biggest half for me
Gonna fry me up a meat tube and give it to the one I love
Chunks of vein and gristle better handle it with a glove
Gonna fix me a vise grip sandwich covered with shoes and lard
Eat as much as I can and bury the rest in the yard
Gonna paint me a Velvet Elvis shaking hands with the boss
LImping like a plastic Jesus hanging on a Matzoh cross
Well I found me a holy grail sleeping by the edge of the night
Filled with the promise of sorrow wrapped in the coming daylight
Well I dreamed an enchanted forest embraced by a lake of the moon
Shattered by an industrial explosion leaking from the side of my room
It was cover with pins and needles pain and pleasure at once
Wearing bib overalls with a little gold star on the front
Gonna paint me a velvet Elvis apearing to the cows
Farmer says they’re all shook the herd is all aroused
When cancer is cured by mice milk man stuffs rats down his pants
Aliens in King Tut’s tomb being eaten alive by ants

Nightingale

Nightingale hold on to your dreams
Not all things are as bad as they seem
Good things come to those who wait
Nightingale singing at the gate
The stars look so far away
And it seems like they’ve nothing to say
But they‘re whispering softly ‘til dawn
A harmony to your song
Nightingale hold on to your dreams
Not all things are as bad as they seem
Good things come to those who wait
Nightingale singing at the gate
Patient for the morning light
Singing out through winter’s longest night
And though dark and shadow chill the heart
The fire just needs a spark to start
Nightingale hold on to your dreams
Not all things are as bad as they seem
Good things come to those who wait
Nightingale singing at the gate
Never deviate from your path
Dig in your heels plant your feet
Set your course straight ahead
Fly your way up Grammy street
Time runs away with your heart
Hours and minutes fall apart
Everything happens for a clue
This message here for you
So Nightingale hold on to your dreams
Not all things are as bad as they seem
Good things come to those who wait
Nightingale singing at the gate
Oh Nightingale it ain’t too late.

Sunset
03:47
|
|||
As day is done a crimson fiery sun
Spreads a last farewell across the sky
Drenching light rays of golden rose
Scorching memories of lives gone by
Smoldering with intent
To reach back and touch yesterday
Gambling time forsaken to the wind
Always betting on a losing hand
Guarded hearts a lovers’ game of chance
The winning names are written in the sand
With rippled fists clenched in rage
The losers clutch at yesterday
Selfish ones festooned with desire
Forgetting everything in the mirror
Games go on blinded by the chase
A murky path that used to be so clear
Not looking back to far enough to see
The lessons of yesterday
And through the years the heart loses its way
Eventually forgetting how to fly
Distant cries of loves that used to be
Echo all across the evening sky
But a shadow from goodbye
Has fallen across yesterday
And now the past forever frozen in time
Remains as distant as the twilight sun
Parting words like salvos to the heart
Malevolently fired on the run
Linger on eternally
Trying to remake yesterday

Gee Whiz

Once a bison came from San Francisco
Took the train to Butte Montana
There he met up with a monkey
They had a picnic down by the river
They ate a plate lunch meat and crackers
Then the monkey said I love you
The bison fell asleep on the laundry
And climbed a mountain named after a mushroom
The monkey picked up all the sauerbraten
And made a Christmas postcard for his mother
The monkey called his friendship poison bison
And began to eat a salamander
The bison left him there to seek his porridge
And roam as bison often do
The monkey found a small encrusted rodent
And began to offer him a cupcake
They always will remember the springtime
When daisies folded over with a promise
To never leave the place where they were standing
The poison bison and the friendship monkey

Loser's Corner
04:38
|
|||
There’s a place down here called loser’s corner
Where the old guys nurse their drinks and stare
At the young girls out there on the dance floor
And they swear it just isn’t fair
They didn’t make ‘em like that when I was their age
if I could only be young again
But the next round of drinks is easier to buy
Than all the days that have been
There’s a chair for you there
Rita uses love as a weapon
With both barrels aimed at your heart
But she’s not gunning for affection
Just her daddy’s sins in the dark
And all the men in her life
Have been twisted and wrapped around her tight
To shield the little girl that’s somewhere inside
She holds on to with all her might
Save a chair for her there
Bobby licks his wounds like a dog
He’s heard they’ll heal faster that way
He says he moved here for a reason
But the only gigs he can play
Are the ones where everybody listens
And hang on every single word
But lately no one shares his dreams
His wisdom isn’t getting heard
Save a chair for him there
Brenda is down here every night
Looking for the man of her dreams
You can bet by the end of the evening
She’ll find one to help her out of her jeans
I’ve heard she’s from a wealthy family
Of corporate lawyers from somewhere back East
So she’s down here slumming
Casting out a line fishing for catch and release
Save a chair for her there
And me I’m fighting off this feeling
That my opinion doesn’t matter at all
And I’m technicolor-painted in the corner
With my back super-glued to the wall
I’m losing my place in line
And my voice is lost on the wind
And the feeling that I’m the biggest loser of all
Is washing over me again
Save a chair for me there

Legends

Amelia Earhart’s out there somewhere
Looking for a place to land
She said never bring it in too early
You gotta wait ‘til your time is at hand
But time stands still in the clouds
If you hear her voice let me know
Cause the air up here Is getting mighty thin
And the sea waits impatiently below
I heard Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee and Uncle Ben
Arguing over what’s for dinner
They said turn off the TV and wash your hands
‘Cause you could already be a winner
Well they didn’t say where they were going
When they left me here with an empty plate
But all this standing around has really got me down
All I got is hurry up and wait
I had a voice mail from the unknown sailor
He said my ship had come in
And although I never really knew him
I can’t forget his ghostly grin
When he said war is forever
Ain’t got no end
And once you start down that old bloody road
You’ll never be the same again
I’ve been flying all morning by the light of the moon
And I’m really getting nowhere at all
All those faces from the Halls of Montezuma
Standing in line waiting for the call
The call to arms from the king
Come rally ‘round the flag of Camelot
But the pundits say as the blood washes away
You’re either with us or you’re not

Sessions

Hot or cold you play the number waking sound from sleep and slumber
Notes cascading time and through Pleasure madness coming true
Banter bouncing crowded walls whisky smoking barroom halls
Force of habit strings along bare emotions play the song
Night time day light sending tones whisper shouting covered bones
Splintered moments crashing down chasing retro waking sounds
Racing forward back in two leading questions to the clue
Giving phrasing to the time lyric notions seeking rhyme
Bending sliding through the scale gentle breezes fill the sail
Charting courses straight ahead ‘til vision appetites are fed
Night time day light sending tones whisper shouting covered bones
Splintered moments crashing down chasing retro waking sounds
All illusions blend in time give and take the chorus line
Memories from other schemes following melodic dreams
Play away ’til morning light notes rebounding from the night
Collecting amber bottles spent matching wisdom with intent

Animal Brain

Animal brain animal brain
Time after time it’s always the same
Conflicting territorial claims
Over and over again
Let the kitty run wild when the moon is full
It’s okay to let her have fun
And if the window’s open let her go
Make fur balls on the lawn
Animal brain animal brain
Time after time it’s always the same
Conflicting territorial claims
Over and over again
Watch the old dog chase his tail
Establish his coveted claim
Tick tock time clock counting down
Growling howls of blame
Animal brain animal brain
Time after time it’s always the same
Over and over again
Tail waggin’ furry fun
Nature don’t give a darn
Just drops you in the middle of a frantic game
With the livestock in the barn
Animal brain animal brain
Time after time it’s always the same
Conflicting territorial claims
Over and over again
No rational thought for the fur lined mind
Acting out in haste
Possessive process rules the day
Enforcing laws of chaste
Animal brain animal brain
Time after time it’s always the same
Conflicting territorial claims
Over and over again
Over and over and over
And over and over and over again

Words
02:34
|
|||
Give me sight give me vision just enough to see
The way out of this prison that some call destiny
Let me run with the wind let me go where it blows
Let me hear words nobody knows
Cover me with a cloud a blanket of eternity
Return my invitation to the party of humanity
Carry me away to that place far and near
Let me understand those words no one can hear
After a night of empty dreams there’s a day of similar sun
And I’m spinning around away from everyone
With a sign of the times whispering in my ear
Shouting words I cannot hear
Empty pages filled with verse concrete intangibles
Retro-fitted masks that are nicely uncomfortable
Make it bright make it clean make it loud and clear
Secret words I cannot hear
