Number One
03:22
|
|||
she’s holding up the sky painting it blue
she’s the reason why every day is new
she carries my heart in a velvet purse
whispers my name in poetic verse
she’s my number one
two holding on hand and hand through time
memories and future plans continue in rhyme
she’s reaching for the clouds running fancy free
up over the mountain to see what she can see
she’s my number one
I count my blessings ten times twelve
never keeping score
I cross my fingers close my eyes
and trust forever more
as life winds its way many worlds collide
I can handle anything when she’s by my side
a stumble now and then she’ll catch me when I fall
through frozen years and secret tears
we’re still standing tall
she’s my number one

Hanging Around
04:21
|
|||
the last time time I saw Alison was 1973
I was hitch hiking down I-5 to visit family
got stranded in Fresno called her on the phone
she met me at the on ramp and said come on home
one night on the couch and then move on
junior year in high school that’s when she transferred in
she’d moved down from Modesto with her eyes wide open
I’d never met anyone that was even half as cool
walking home together after school
cats and snakey friends on the lawn
the world turns seasons change round and round it goes
time runs through your hands lives ebb and flow
halfway through senior year her daddy passed away
momma packed all their home she said they couldn’t stay
Bob told me he had heard she’d moved to Fresno
her number’s in the phone book then he said I gotta go
stared down at his feet and then moved on
all those years ago and it’s still in my memory
a bota bag a desert moon the smell of patchouli
I played the lonesome vagabond and saw many things
smiles always come easier to those that can sing
one night on the couch and then move on
yet here am I still hanging around

She's Walking
04:46
|
|||
Somewhere in my thoughts there lives a lady
She's walking back and forth across my mind
Blocking out each chance of me forgetting
Assuring me she'll be there for some time
Her golden hair is tied around my memory
The pain she left with me is here to stay
I'm doing all I can to go on living
And yet I die a little more each day
Now that I'm alone with just her memory
I've had some time for counting my mistakes
And loving her stands out from all the others
That was one I couldn't help but make
It's funny how some thoughts can be so painful
And how they just refuse to go away
I'm doing all I can to go on living
And yet I die a little more each day
She lets me die a little more each day

Most of All
03:49
|

I want to believe in summer rain
dreams come true if you close your eyes
raindrops fall from crystal skies
time never ends
I want to believe in fairy tales
castles tall and maidens fair
happy endings everywhere let the sunshine in
but most of all I believe in song
it can take you away and bring you home
make you cry and wanna be alone
make you smile and wanna carry on
most of all I believe in song
I want to believe in holding hands
where love wears an honest heart
and promises never fall apart
holding on forever more
I want to believe in food for thought
where every bite is sincerity
where every sip is integrity the heeling begins within
I wanna believe in the full moon
raise my voice and start to howl
with all the animals on the prowl in perfect harmony
I wanna board a ship sail away
to foreign lands and distant shores
around the world and back to my door
there ain’t no place like home

Empty Heart
03:38
|
|||
she wakes with the sunlight filtering in
as shadows surrender another day begins
alone with her thoughts that echo ‘round the room
she wonders if their orchid will bloom
it’s hard to fill an empty heart
he’s living a life stuck on repeat
the bottle’s almost gone there’s sirens in the street
he stares at the ceiling while the music softly fades
a forty watt bulb burns behind a busted shade
it’s hard to fill an empty heart
some people are this way right from the start
some become this way after being torn apart
he daydreams at school of mom and dad again
together forever the way it should have been
long before the war and the battles fought at home
over visitation rights and birthdays on the phone
it’s hard to fill an empty heart
ooh it’s hard to heal a broken heart

Below Zero
03:57
|

Don’t go looking for me I’m lost as can be
you can play the game with someone else
I never joined the team it’s just not my scene
I’m just fine here on the shelf
let it go let it be it never touches me
cause I wear a uniform of steel
safely tucked away in a world of my own
I lock the door cause I don’t want to feel
them with a frozen heart try to keep us apart
playing the separation game
but I know what’s true no matter the hue
all our hearts beat the same
there’s a man over there trying to sell me air
but I think I can breath on my own
he says he’ll guarantee my popularity
if I only worship at his throne
let it go let it be it never touches me
cause I wear a uniform of steel
safely tucked away in a world of my own
I lock the door cause I don’t want to feel
I can choose what I think is real

Tabloid Queen
04:39
|
|||
She’s not the kind of girl to let her secrets show
She thinks that if you love her you’re just supposed to know
And she’ll never tell you what you doing wrong
She'll just make a note on the letter to Dolly
She’s been writing for so long
She always looks for answers inside the magazine
On the rack at the check out line turn the page
Tabloid Queen
The Enquirer never told her she doesn’t understand
She thinks her body is all she has to hang on to her man
But his wondering eyes are traveling at the speed of light
Like a beacon on a stormy sea for ships passing in the night
One more night of questions asked in silent pain
One more round of denials he’s pretty good at this game
She whispers do you love me “C’mon honey what-a-ya think
Then he waits for her to fall asleep and goes out for a drink
She wonders if Ms. Taylor ever walked this empty floor
The she buries her head in her pillow to cry a little more
One tear for the sorrow one more for the rain
A flood to wash all his lies spinning down the drain

Imaginary Life
04:13
|
|||
imaginary life shelter in a dream
envisioning a throne in the clouds
superficial signs of golden majesty
surrounded by worshiping crowds
a glass of bravery followed by the same
foaming illusions of success
through the smokey properly dazed
fulfilling their need for excess
high above the herd watching celebration time
anticipation conquers the room
eternity awaits while the hours dance away
pledging promises to the moon
rainbows full of dreams arch across the years
multi colored layers of the past
at the end of it’s beam that fabled pot of gold
where wishes are granted at last

Do What You Can
03:11
|
|||
on a windy autumn night leaves are creeping about
the temperature’s falling within and without
keep the dog on the bed pile the blankets high
while a crescent moon hangs low in a cold November sky
you do what you can to survive
single once again took some time to realize
that pleading face of love was just a disguise
there’s boxes by the door holding half of a home
memories for sale spread out on the lawn
you do what you can to survive
we’re all puppets of fate
with our strings pulled by time
you gotta learn the dance find your place in line
the alarm shatters a dream at 5:29
go out and get that minimum wage
down in the salt mine
groceries for the week or pay the power bill
can you stretch the paycheck far enough
though force of will
you do what you can to survive
you do what it takes to survive

On The Wall
04:46
|
|||
Write your name on the wall
then turn and walk away
leave your memories down the hall
in a room called yesterday
the shifting sands of time don’t pay any mind
through the hourglass they drain
write your name on the wall
then turn and walk away
Sing your songs to the dark
let the words softly drift away
echoing off the stars
surrendering to the break of day
the shifting sands of time don’t pay any mind
through the hourglass they drain
sing your song to the dark
let the words softly drift away
Carve your story on a stone
send it skipping ‘cross the waves
of all the smiles you’ve known
watch the ripples dissipate
the shifting sands of time don’t pay any mind
through the hourglass they drain
carve your story on a stone
send it skipping ‘cross the waves
Write your name on the wall
then turn and walk away
